Do Forests Call Global Warming?

I was suprised by this opinion piece commenting on a new study that northern forests might be a leading cause of global warming due to the albedo effect. (Apparently, even though they absorb carbon, their darkness allegedly retains so much heat that it outweighs any benefit they have to the reduction of greenhouse gas.)
