CT's Dictionary
transophiterate -- to use the art of sophistry to rewrite the arguments of a previous blogger's post so as to argue a point other than what that blogger intended; to misrepresent another's views for devious rhetorical purposes. E.g. 1) After Peter transophiterated Mary's post on the Holocaust, he was able to object to points she never even made. 2) It made the pope sad to know that so many people transophiterated the documents of the Second Vatican Council by paraphrasing them as heresies.

Also known as the "Straw Man" fallacy.

Creating a rhetorical "straw man" who oversimplifies the opposition so as to make an easy target is far too sexist. Plus, it is difficult for our urban readers to fully appreciate the concept of a man made from straw. Modern audiences usually only think of straws as things they drink through. Granted, some people might think of scarecrows, but this term is too frightening and negative. "Transophiteration" is much more appealing to a twenty-first century audience.
